Origins of the Five

My initial inspiration for this project was coming
from the thinking about water. Water is the source of everything. It can gently nurture all kinds of life, and also has majestic destructive power. It reminded me, I think of the ancient Chinese "The Book of Changes" and geomantic omen-----"Five Elements". People transformed the golden, wood, water, fire, and soil in nature into the arrangement of the five elements, and gave them new meanings and prayed for fulfilling their wishes. In the research, I gained a clearer understanding of the five elements, and I wanted to express the mutual growth and restraint between human and nature.
I created five paintings and a sculpture to express what I thought. A patron saint was also designed for each element. They maintain the balance of living space and have the power to destroy mankind.
Sculpture
The source of inspiration for the sculpture from the marble sculpture "Apollo and Daphne", whose content is that men chase women. I introduced the genders into the abstraction of Yin and Yang, and used the five elements that are indispensable in the evolution process to express the formation and interrelationship of all things in the world.
Water
The state of water is circulation and life. We come from the mother's womb and live in the amniotic fluid. After leaving the womb, our lives are also inseparable from water.

The state of fire is the origin and development, and it can also exhaust life. Life is a process of death, and time is the flame of a candle. It spends its entire life trying to shine and heat, and it is also counting down. I use foxes to express people's souls. After the fire burns, the body is shattered and disappears, but it also seems to ignite new hope.

The state of wood is its vitality and root, and plants are the source of energy for people. At the same time, it also has poisonous species represented by opium poppy, which can end life while maintaining life.

The state of soil is the birth and the earth itself. It cover everything on the earth. Natural disasters and the extinction of some species have also been formed in the plate shell movement, and disasters are ruthless to everything.
